Taking orders is inherently humiliating. We instinctively rebel against anyone who would condescend to think they have the right to tell us what to do. It’s so automatic it’s practically a reflex.

Sometimes it’s silly because we literally just said we wanted to do it, but in general it’s a good impulse to be indignant that someone would give you orders.
