I assume this is due to the effect that nicotine has on receptors of a neurotransmitter called Acetylcholine. This substance is crucial for a ton of activities, but a big part of its use is in motor control. In is one of the main substances in the parasympathetic nervous system, that controls our resting state like breathing and (you guessed it) digestion. It basically replaces Acetylcholine in these functions, activating more synapses thab you normally would.

Not too sure but I’d think it’s the release of dopamine. Kind of like the use of morphine on a much much lower level. You’re body doesn’t feel the discomfort due to that good feeling drug
