“Up close pictures” are heavily reduced in brightness so detail is visible. Otherwise your picture of the sun would just be a white circle which isn’t particularly helpful.
Many astronomy pictures are edited in such a way, as the human eye isn’t as capable as the telescopes used to capture data. Certain wavelengths can detect different types of gas within nebula for example but it is up to artistic license what color each range of wavelengths are depicted because humans might not even be able to perceive the original. An image from a radio telescope being a blank page isn’t very helpful either.
