I think it’s a protection thing. If you’re underneath a cover, you’re sort of “protected” from outside danger.

Pressure helps calm down most everything and everyone. Cows are put in a compression machine to calm them down for milking sometimes. Blankets of any weight give compression and makes it feel like a hug.

I believe there is a strong behavioral pairing/conditioning as well. We associate bedding with relaxation, security, and sleep early in life.
