The acids in your breakfast make your teeth soft and brushing them when they are soft will erode them over time. Wait at least half an hour after eating (or drinking something acidic) before brushing your teeth.

As soon as you eat, the pH of your saliva becomes more acidic. You want to wait about 30 minutes before brushing because it takes about that long for your mouth to become more neutral. You don’t want to brush an acidic environment into your teeth, because acid is the enemy when it comes protecting your enamel. I’m a dental hygienist…

I’ve heard it’s too make your teeth more slippery so food doesn’t stick as easily.

And then as others have said, brush them again after about a half hour after eating.
