You don’t work 8 hours. You work a couple and the rest of the time you spend working with other which is really office politics, kissing ass, having you own ass kissed, making connections, making people like you. It’s a full contact sport. You could code for 8 hours every day but the PM takes credit for it anyway.

Generally speaking old managers tend to be the ones mandating office work in m experience. The younger my manager the more willing they are to let you work remotely. Sometimes a company has a huge work space and it makes higher ups upset if no one is sitting in the cubes they bought.

I enjoy working from home but I’m hate going to meetings remotely. Even with a video connection a lot is lost. Moreover there is a lot of word of mouth type updates I miss when I work from home. I only work from home once a week and I honestly don’t want to do so more often than that.
