Why does vapor come off of ice after water is poured into a glass?

In: Chemistry

I believe it’s water vapor caused when the warmer liquid water hits the colder frozen water

What you’re seeing is actually the water vapor in the AIR around the ice turning back into water since the Ice cools said air.

We know this is the case because if we put Ice out in a place with 0% humidity, no vapor appears.

So in short, it’s not vapor coming off the ice, but rather the vapor in the air becoming water as the ice cools it.
