why does ice make a popping noise when sprinkled with ice melt?

I think I understand that it has something to do with the release of oxygen? Still don’t really understand. Thanks in advance to anyone who will answer!!

The crystal structure of the ice breaks apart when melting because it melts faster in some places than in others. This creates tension which is released as a crackling sound. The ice melt (calcium chloride) might exaggerate the effect because it is faster than natural melting or it happens more unevenly, creating more tension.
