The taste buds on your tongue respond to different kinds of flavour.

When something is really cold, you are numbing most of these receptors to the point that the taste is “smooth” while really they’re just not responding.

If a drink says it’s better ice cold* it means it’s rather low quality. (Beer commercials for example)

Your ability to taste cold things is worse than your ability to taste less cold things. Essentially what you’re perceiving as a “better taste” is actually “less taste” so what you’re drinking probably doesn’t taste very nice
