why does accidentally biting your tongue hurt but not when you purposely bite it?

even though you may think you are biting it as hard or harder than when it’s on accident, you really aren’t biting enough. it is human instinct to not want to be able to bite off your tongue. i learned once that biting off your finger takes the same amount of force as biting a baby carrot, yet you don’t bite off your finger.

Because you don’t purposely bite it hard enough for it to hurt.

Honestly, it’s that simple. If you were to bite it harder, it *would* hurt.
