We technically aren’t doing anything else while waiting, so why do we get tired from it?

Waiting is boring. Boring things make us want to do things that aren’t the boring thing, like sleep.
Because we have no significant mental or sensory stimulation. It’s not really different from when you close your eyes at night and “wait” to fall asleep.
This is why retail jobs such. 0 mental stimulation, constant disrespect, and a general feeling of being the smartest person in the room
