why do spiders like basements so much?

I live in a basement suite. Why are spiders so common in basements – even high traffic ones (such as mine)?

A basement has very little air circulation, therefore the humid air cannot go anywhere. This is because in apartments with lots of windows air comes from one and goes out from another so the air in the apartment is replenished. Spiders like humid and moist environments.

Because other bugs, which they eat, like it.

Its dark, cool, and usually a little more humid and earthy and bugs can get in easily. Just like theyike the cool dark places under old wood and such. Makes it a buffet for spiders.
