Why do old former government workers “disclose” that extraterrestrials exist, ultimately tarnishing their own reputation?

It’s clear they are doing it to spread misinformation, but there must be something else. Are they pushing a specific ideology? I’m curious to know. I was interested in this because there’s an AMA on the subject.

What. In. The. Fuck. LMAO dude nobody”knows” one way or the other, I’m just saying, statistically, in an infinite universe, the odds of there being other life forms are more favorable. Which is more evidence than you have.

That isn’t clear at all. Instead they may simply truly believe what they claim; after all you wouldn’t find too much out of the norm for a politician to claim they had received messages from a god, right? Both are similarly silly but the latter is plausibly just pandering to a large voting base while the former doesn’t provide such benefits.

It is far more likely they are just a nut.

How is it they are spreading misinformation? I don’t know if they are telling the truth or not, but it would be silly to assume we are the only living/sentient creatures in the infinite universe.
