Why do magnetic poles reverse?

Depends on what kind of magnet you are talking about. If you are talking about a electro magnet which is created by sending current through a conducting material (normally a cable) if you reverse the way the current is flowing (into the other direction) the magnetic field is reversed as well. Why a magnetic field is created when you run current through a conductor is one of those physical concepts you would advise just taking at face value (another example for this is gravity) not because they can’t be explained but because the explanation is incredibly complicated and is not worth knowing unless you are actually going into the field of advanced physics.
