Why do keyfobs often have a longer ‘unlock’ range than a ‘lock’ range?

I’ve seen this over and over again, from security doors, to cars to remote gates. They’ll usually unlock or open a thing at half as much range as they’ll lock it, and I haven’t the faintest idea why

Your post title seems to contradict the sentence in your post when you talk about ‘half the range’ for unlocking…

Do you mean that unlocking has a longer range than locking, or shorter?
