Why do hot/cold things things feel painful when in reality it’s just the particles on our skin being made to vibrating faster/slower?

Pain receptors in our skin are there to detect things that are dangerous to us. That could be things that are sharp and might cut us (also just atoms moving around). Or it could be things that are very hot or very cold.
One of these detectors picks up that it’s too hot or too cold and it starts sending warning signals to our brain. We interpret these signals as pain, as a danger signal.
How exactly these receptors detect temperature, that’s a slightly different question and I don’t know the answer to that.
