Blue light has a very short wave-length, this makes it scatter and not as easy to focus.
This can create a lot of visual “noise” input to your sight, which with long exposure can cause eye-fatigue, which in turn can cause a headache.
This is why “night-mode” on your phone and gamer glasses (those yellow tinted ones) exist.

This is only one of the reasons though

They don’t necessarily. But it may be due to dry eyes or a sensitivity to flickering light that some screens produce (called PWM). It may also be due to having to focus your eyes to a close distance for a long time, which can cause the muscles in your eyes to get tired and strained.

Personally, using eye drops meant for dry eyes helps a lot when I have eye strain, so mine is due to dryness.
