drinks, especially those with sugar, interact with oxygen in the air and airborne bacteria that cause the chemical composition of a drink to breakdown slowly over time.
if the drink is sealed air tight it will take longer, if the drink contains organic compounds (like apple or grape juice) then it may still break down even in an air tight container.
it’s why companies pump preservatives into drinks, to slow this process down.
