In animal species where they live in pairs or a group and the males of the species are a protector of the group they tend to grow physically larger. You see this with a large number of mammals including many felines such as Lions, and Most primates including Gorillas and Humans.

Other animals like many species of reptiles and fish the female is larger than males to produce more eggs.

It’s called sexual dimorphism- when there is a physical difference between the males and females of a species. In humans, it typically means that men may be taller and built slightly differently than women. In birds, it may mean that one gender is brighter colored to attract a mate while the other is more muted colors to blend in better while nesting.
