Pain really is just a reaction to intense stimuli, it’s a genetic means of self preservation, its a message of constant communication between body and mind and all the while urging you to do your due diligence to prevent further harm and facilitate healing. Pain is a trait that is as ancient as traits come to feel pain is essentially a prerequisite for being in the kingdom Animalia. Because pain isn’t really a specific thing its a reaction to essentially abnormal conditions that can vary from species to species and individual to individual. Although it’s probably impossible to know for certain the perception of pain I believe is related to severity and recovery time so if your wounds are inevitably fatal but slow to kill, yes, your body most likely will forego pain unlike if you’d recover from a similar injury. I believe, your brain most certainly knows you are gonna die before your consciousness realizes.

Pain is your bodies way of telling your brain that what’s happening to your body is bad and needs to stop.
