why can a shout be heard from further away if there is a crowd making that shout as opposed to an individual ? (Or is this false?)

sound is all waves traveling through the air. having two things make the same noise level (db) allows it to sound louder and also travel further away but it’s not necessarily a linear relationship because it amplifies the magnitude or power of the sound wave. ie 2 objects at 40db won’t be 2x louder than 1 object at 40db.

Two identical sine waves overlapped will increase amplitude thus moving more air, thus making it louder.
