Why are OLED screens pentile and do they support full RGB patterns?

Every topic on OLED that I can find generally explains what a pentile arrangement is and how it differs from RGB LCD displays. Instead I would like to know *why* display manufacturers use pentile patterns so frequently and is it possible to make an OLED RGB screen in use cases where it could be beneficial, like Virtual Reality displays?

PenTile is a trademark of Samsung.

Blue LEDs are the hardest to make, and the advantages of PenTile are: a) You only need one blue out of 5; b) the blue can be larger so that the amount of light produced is equal.

What are the VR benefits you’d expect from lower blue levels? I can’t think of any.
