why and how viruses follow cycles

Generally, whats the deal with viruses having annual or biannual or seasonal cycles etc? Are there different types? Is it always the case? Seasonal almost makes sense to me, but are there examples when it is not, basically, weather-related?

The biggest factor are viruses that are transmitted in droplets. During the winter, when it is dryer, droplets remain in the air for longer, increasing how contagious the virus is. When it gets more humid in the summer, an infected person on average infects less new people.

Once it starts to get dry again, the infection can spread better, and the infection rate goes up again.
