It depends on the job or the assholery level of the employer/tester.

Tests are measured in “panels” typically, so an 10-panel test will test for 10 different types of drugs.

Here’s a listing for a 16-panel test which is fairly excessive from my experience:

* AMP – Amphetamines 500 ng/ml
* BAR – Barbiturates 300 ng/ml
* BUP – Buprenorphine 10 ng/ml
* BZO – Benzodiazepines 300 ng/ml
* COC – Cocaine 150 ng/ml
* EDDP – Methadone Metabolite 300 ng/mL
* ETG – Ethyl Glucuronide 500 ng/ml
* FEN – Fentanyl 25 ng/ml
* K2 – Synthetic Marijuana 25 ng/ml
* MDMA – Ecstasy 500 ng/ml
* MET – Methamphetamines 500 ng/ml
* OPI / MOP – Morphine / Opiates 300 ng/ml
* OXY – Oxycodone 100 ng/ml
* PCP – Phencyclidine 25 ng/ml
* THC – Cannabinoid (Marijuana) 50 ng/ml
* TRA – Tramadol 100 ng/ml

It depends entirely on the test. 5 point tests usually test for THC, Opioids, Cocaine, Amphetamines and Phencyclidine. The higher point tests have more specific things they test for, such as barbiturates and Benzodiazepines. Those are much less common, though. 5 point tests are the most commonly used.

Well depends what they look for. Usually it’s cocaine, opiates, amphetamine, meth, marijuana, some psychedelics and potentially benzos.

And no. Caffeine cannot make you test positive for opiates for example. Poppy seed can but you won’t come off as a heroin junkie and further testing will confirm that you haven’t actually used opiates.

Caffeine is so astoundingly common in the American diet, at least, what with soda, tea, coffee, chocolate, energy drinks, and pain meds. It’s a large and distinctive molecule. If a cup of coffee would throw off a drug test, it would render drug tests useless.

Typically a urine tests are screening for common drugs: opioids, amphetamines, MDMA, THC, party drugs… All the typical common stuff. Basically, if you’re using drugs or abusing pain killers, they’re going to find it. I believe they don’t test for psychedelics – LSD, psilocybin, but of course I can’t tell you what they specifically will or won’t test for. It could be regionally dependent, so if there was a particular drug problem in your area, they might include a test for that, whereas it may be absent in other parts of the country.

False positives are rare, though some foods do cause that to happen. If I were a parole officer or an employer, I would not be interested in excuses.

It depends on what the person or company requesting the test asks the company doing the testing to look for. Most of the time it’s anything that is illegal for recreational use, or just illegal full-stop.

Caffeine will show up in the testing they do, since it does have a presence in your bloodstream, but it shows up as caffeine.

If you’re on any sort of prescription painkillers that are opioid based for whatever reason, that will flag as a positive for opioids in your system (and isn’t really a false positive, but just a positive that you have a prescription for). Similarly, if you have ADHD you may be prescribed amphetamines of some sort or another, which is the same family of chemicals as crystal meth (aka methamphetamine). Again, if you have valid prescriptions for these, that should explain the presence of them in your system.

As another poster mentioned, poppy seeds come from the same flower, and have the same residual chemicals as, opiates, and so will give a false positive. There’s a debate as to how often it happens or what tests will pick ’em up, but really it’s better to just avoid them if you’re getting a drug test.

Most of them and not as far as i know.
Fun fact: poppy seeds WILL give you a false positive, so avoid em
