I just recently started working at a gas station and it got me wondering if there’s any difference between marbro red, menthol and what’s the difference between Kings and 100s is it just the length and if so why would anyone buy Kings when they just get less cigarette for the same price

Used to work in a convenience store

Regular king and 100’s refer to length/size
Menthol has a slight mint flavour I believe. I’m a non smoker.
Regular, light, extra light, all refer to the amount of nicotine. Of course they banned that here in Canada 10-15 years ago so they aren’t called light anymore. It’s stuff smooth or mellow. It’s been a long time since I’ve worked there.

Too many differences to explain in one concise answer. ~~There are two main types of tobacco – Virginia and Turkish – so a lot of different cigarettes have different blends of those.~~ There are a few different types of tobacco (Oriental, Burley, etc.), known as Virginia, Turkish, etc., that are commonly used in cigarettes. Some have thicker filters, some have less tobacco and more additives of other stuff to make the smoke less thick, some have more tobacco (for instance, American Spirit cigarettes have a lot more tobacco compared to a Marlboro Light or Silver or whatever they call it these days). American Spirit and other types of cigarettes (Davidoff, etc.) have higher quality tobacco blends, too. Marlboro is like Lipton tea while other cigarettes are more like Teavana quality.

Menthol cigarettes have menthol in them – it’s a mint flavoring, it makes the smoke taste minty instead of smoky but it is usually rougher to inhale. Some cigarettes, like Camel Crush, have a menthol bead in the filter that you pop, so you can choose to have a regular cigarette or a menthol cigarette as you want.

“King” cigarettes are the standard cigarette size – 84 mm long (that includes the filter). 100s are 100 mm long (includes the filter). There are shorter cigarettes with a filter, and the old school 70 mm cigarettes without a filter are still a thing (though I’ve only seen Camel and Lucky Strike without filters in the US). People buy the standard size cigarettes because they can be cheaper, because the pack is more compact and easier to carry, and because they don’t want to smoke a cigarette that’s much bigger than what they’re used to.

Most importantly is flavor. Each brand uses different blends, additives and such. I think menthol is a bronchodilator which opens up the tubes in the lungs. In regards to length, I think it has to do with how much nicotine you want.
