What makes something flammable?

Question

I’m thinking along the lines of liquids (oil, gasoline, water) but I guess solids as well. What properties determine flammability?

Rapid oxidation.

A chemical needs to react to oxygen by releasing a large amount of energy. Enough to create light and heat.
