For the most part it’s how efficiently and with minimal degradation of DNA instruction at the point of replication that defines lifespan

The answers about DNA and replication are spot on but I also remember I watched something once that in animals heart rate was a big indicator of lifespan. The faster the heart beat the shorter the life span.
