What is the purpose of a chin?

I’m watching Comedians in Cars and Seinfeld says he doesn’t trust a beard because you can’t see a guy’s chin. So what’s it there for, anyways?

Most animals with teeth have a moveable jaw (Mandible) in which their lower teeth are seated in, so that they can chew, or bite etc. Humans however are the only animal with a bony protrusion on their jaw (what we call a chin). Scientists don’t really know why we have chins, since it isn’t a trait shared by any other animal alive today.

And if you don’t believe that we are the only animals with chins (I didn’t at first), Google it.

It’s weird, but true.

I read a research article somewhere that the human face evolved with a prominent chin and forehead due to fist fights between ancient humans. Not sure if it’s entirely substantiated
