I’ve been watching some different YouTube channels lately. Conservatives, reactionaries, religious people etc. they seem to use the word a lot

“Logos” is the translation of an Ancient Greek word, Λόγος, that means “word” or “discourse.”

In a conservative, reactionary, religious context it is almost certainly a reference to Jesus Christ, as the first verse of the first chapter of the Gospel of John is, in the original Greek:

Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ **λόγος**, καὶ ὁ **λόγος** ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ **λόγος**.

Or, in English:

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”

In certain [Christian theologies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logos_(Christianity)) Logos is not only considered “the Word”, but, because “the Word was God”, Logos *is* God (and, because of the Trinity, by extension, Jesus Christ).

They could be using it contrast to “pathos”. Pathos refers to an appeal to emotion, typically used in the context of someone attempting to persuade someone else of something. “Logos,” on the other hand, is an appeal to logic or reason.
