What is Exergy?

So I remember covering this in a thermodynamics course I took in college, but it wasn’t very well explained. All I know is it is *like* energy, but it isnt energy.

Simply: Exergy is the maximum useful work a system can produce.

More specifically “exergy is the maximum usefulness work a system can do during a process that brings the system into equilibrium with a heat reservoir.”

Which means means simply, exergy is the amount of useful work a system can do, before all the energy is used up as either work or heat, and the system has reached maximum entropy.
