What happens to unsold cars?

The price is reduced until they are sold or the scrap value of the car is worth more than the retail value, so scrapped cars may be dismantled for parts.

They get sold eventually, at a discount. If you look on sites like autotrader, you can find quite a few left over 2018s or 2017s that have been sitting on dealer lots for a while, usually with pretty good discounts.

If manufacturers are sitting on a larger number of unsold cars, they will often work out a deal with large fleet operators (like rental companies) to sell them for much lower prices.

Their prices go down until they are sold. If a dealer has too many unsold cars, they might return them to the manufacturer, who will either send them to another dealer, or sell them as fleet vehicles, like to a government agency or a rental company.
