What happens to our blood when we die

I’ve been quite curious lately to find out what happens the our blood after someone’s passing, does it thin or does it clot etc? I was also curious to know if the blood was something that can also be donated after death too like other organs can?

A bit of an odd question to ask but I’ve been interested to learn what happens to it.

When the heart stops pumping, blood stops circulating and, because it’s pooling, it begins to clot very quickly. Trying to drain a substantial amount of blood after someone dies wouldn’t be worth it because of the clotting and other changes that happen (eg, blood cells dying and changes to chemicals/minerals in the blood).

Blood has an interesting fail safe: If it stops moving, it begins to clot relatively fast. When we die, our heart stops beating which stops the propulsion of blood through the vessels. The blood begins forming clots and using up a lot of the components as it does so. No, it cannot be donated after we die as it begins to separate and rapidly become poisonous due to acidic changes and byproducts of tissue death.

The blood will stop moving around the body. It’ll begin to pool and coagulate (clot) in the lowest part of the body.
