Many phobias develop as a result of having a negative experience or panic attack related to a specific object or situation.
Example: you’re a kid who got scratched by a stray cat, there’s a chance you develop Ailurophobia (phobia of cats).

I have arachnophobia and I can pinpoint the exact moment that developed. My older sister let me watch the movie Arachnophobia when I was 4. I was terrified and it traumatised me.

An early traumatic experience is often what causes this. Doesn’t have to be early though.

Some phobias also develop through suggestion. For example if everyone else is scared of hights you may also develop a fear of heights. The power of suggestion at its finest
