If you’re talking about those tiny ones that hurt like motherfck
I don’t know what they’re called elsewhere but we call them mouth ulcers and they usually appear with stress I’ve noticed

What bumps? Can you explain a little bit more? Where exactly , like on tongue , inside the cheek , on the palate?

You mean those little painful ones? They are called Aphtae and are caused by your immune system reacting. We don’t know why exactly though.

I don’t know what they are either but I know exactly what you are talking about. It is just like a pimple/bump on inside of cheek or lip. It is not the flat, very painful canker/cold sore which will last for a few days. It pops up so quick, it seems, and then disappears in a few hours. But I generally pop it because it is so annoying. I have often wondered what causes it/what it is.

Could be herpes. You personally might be a chaste and upstanding citizen, but most of humanity after a certain age carries some form of herpes.

Your parents could have been carriers, or, if you ever shared a drink, food, or kissed someone. Maybe you weren’t too thorough washing your hands. Literally something to the order of 75%+ of humanity has some form of the HSV virus.

Assuming they are canker sores, one anecdotal way to help is to switch your toothpaste. Most common toothpaste brands have sodium lauryl sulfate in them which helps make them foam. It can be an irritant for many people so switching to a brand that doesn’t contain it might help.

In my case I used to have at least one canker sore almost all the time but I switched to Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste and now maybe get one or two canker sores a year.
