This is probably better asked in r/AskHistory but the gist of it is that in 1961, the British Secretary of State for War, John Profumo, had an affair with a 19 year old aspiring model named Christine Keeler. At the same time, Christine Keeler was also seeing a Soviet diplomat named Yevgeny Ivanov. In addition to the sex scandal, this led to security concerns about how careful Profumo was with classified information, or that Ivanov may have been attempting to use Keeler to get access to information Profumo had. The scandal tainted the entire government and almost certainly contributed to the Labour Party’s victory at the next election.
