the differences between losing your breath from being unfit and having breathing issues

I’ve had a lot of issues with my breathing, and I’m honestly not sure if it’s because of my atrocious fitness level or if there’s another issue going on. Pls explain

Both are due to inadequate oxygen for the body.
If you have asthma its because your airway is narrowing due to inflammation. If you are out of shape its because your body is doing more than your supply can deliver.

I have asthma, and I can tell you: If you don’t quickly regain your breath after exertion, then there is some breathing issue going on. How quick is quick? Depends on your fitness level, but when my asthma kicks in (and it’s often induced by exercise), I need my inhaler or I’m in trouble. Asthma feels very much like a weight on your chest…as if someone is literally sitting on your chest and it’s a huge effort to take in air.
