If heat is energy, why does warmth/heat typically relax us, while cold typically wakes us up?

Because cold is a stresful situation, i mean the body has to turn on mechanisms to produce warmth and that requires energy. Nobody wants to lose.

Your body reacting to heat or cold is different than what heat and cold are. Your body doesnt utilize temperate as a fuel source. Your body overheating puts it in a conservation mode so it doesnt generate excess heat and over heat. Being cold causes your body to react and generate heat so you dont freeze.
