What other choices would they have?

Dating periods have changed it is no longer AD and BC it is CE and BCE or before common era, due to mistakes supposedly Jesus was born in 4 BC anyway the marking of years is just a convenient standard and requires no belief in a particular mythology. As someone else pointed out the days of the week are named after Norse/Roman gods which also require no acceptance of their mythology either. https://youtu.be/15ycqpxrfY4

Doesnt matter if they accept it as the year of birth of something they dont believe in. The world works on that year, so might as well fall in line

Yes, because it’s pretty much a universal concept and we can’t really communicate without it. Some people use CE and BCE to avoid terms with religious connotations

I can’t speak for all atheists, but i use it when speaking english. However in danish (my first language) we have F.V.T which is “Før vores tidsregning” directly translating to “Before Our Timecalculation”

Yes it’s just a convention. However BCE and CE for before the common era and common era respectively are becoming more common especially in scientific circles. Either way if fine with me.

It’s just a convention to label the years. Actual scholars think that historical Christ wasn’t even born in 0001, and it was actually probably a few years off. It doesn’t matter for the purpose of labeling years. Most academics will use B.C.E. (before common era) rather than B.C. (before Christ).

Atheists accept the convention of our numbered years the same way that Christians accept Thor’s Day (Thursday). Doesn’t mean they believe in Thor.

Yes, because that’s an objective point in history and has nothing to do with existence of a supernatural being.
