How to tell apart different types of latin music to dance.

I recently learned to dance cuban salsa and when I go out they always play different music, so when I ask a girl to dance sometimes it happens that apparently the song that’s being played doesn’t fit to cuban salsa but rather NY type of salsa or even sol. Cha cha cha music sounds similar to bachata etc.

Each type of dance has a characteristic speed range, and pattern of beats (ie rhythm). If the music has the same pattern, you’re good to go.

It can take a while, especially with latin rhythms to be able to instantly distinguish which is which if you are not used to them. If you want to learn more about the salsa rhythms I recommend this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5FOwr-jDwQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5FOwr-jDwQ)
