Canada’s House of Commons is reasonably similar to the U.S. House of Representatives. The country is divided into 338 constituencies. In each election, you vote for the member of parliament who will represent your constituency. Whoever wins the most votes wins the seat.

The party that wins the most seats gets to be the government, and if their leader wins his seat, he becomes Prime Minister. That’s basically the gist of it.
