: How does an electric vehicles work?

I know that speed is proportional to voltage and torque is proportional to current. Now, consider example of uphill driving. When we press accelerator paddle, what exactly happens?

The electric engine kicks up a bit (computer controlled) and outputs more torque. It is no different than the concept for an electric motor on a power tool or in a RC car.

Many EVs use induction motors which don’t vary speed based on voltage. The frequency is what controls the speed of rotation. EVs don’t use typical brushed DC motors, they make 3 phase AC (Aka brushless “DC” motors).
