How does 8D music work?

It feels so trippy and I don’t understand how it works.

So, the way that it works is by panning the audio signal, pretty much, instead of having a balanced output (as you would on any song) the modify the way the audio comes out (balancing between more output between the left or right headphone) AND most importantly, if you create a balance like L 80% – R 20% then you move it so that it ends the other way around (L 70% – R 30%; L 60% – R 40% and so on) that’s why you feel some kind of ambience, as not a lot of music use it, they usually just pan and it remains like that the entire song thus not creating an “ambience” notion.

I hope that helps, also sorry about the shitty explanation I am at work and should not be writing this.

If you have any additional doubt please let me know

Imagine that you are sitting inside a room and somebody is playing the music from a speaker. While the music is going, you ask them to move the speaker from left to right slowly. This is what’s happening in your headphones when you listen to 8D music. The left and right headphones are slowly switching between each other and that makes it feel like somebody is moving the music around your head.
