I heard that SARS just ‘went away’ after a while.. How does that work?

If it’s not too contagious and you’re very proactive you can round up all the sick and quarantine them in a hospital, then it will just run through them and cease to exist. If it’s more contagious or you can’t identify and successfully quarantine them then it won’t work.

Normally, they eventually run out of potentially vulnerable hosts, either through attrition (death) or immunity.
