How do trees grow in width?

I know it gets like the carbon n stuff, but like where does the bark go? Or, does it just grow so slow it doesnt matter?

You know the rings that you see in the trunks of cut down trees? They’re actually layers of repurposed bark. The “main” trunk is composed of those rings that act like veins for the tree.
