Just a wild guess here but I assume the photo simply gets printed on glossy paper? It’s not 100 years ago…

Instant photography. Same as polaroids.

The rough idea is that the photo paper has a little pouch of developing chemicals built into the paper. The rollers on the camera burst this pouch and spread the chemicals over the paper as it is being ejected from the camera.
