How do insects breathe?

They don’t breathe exactly – they are small enough that they don’t have to force air through a tube like we do. The air naturally mixes fast enough that they can get oxygen into their bodies without having to move the air. Not only this, but instead of using blood to carry the oxygen, they have tubes that carry air straight to their cells.
This is true for most insects, although not all.

As others have said it varies but in general insects are small enough that they can get oxygen through just passive diffusion. They can augment this with body movements or opening and closing holes(spiracles) for greater control.
