How do humans (most likely other mammals as well) have a designated height they’ll be as adults when they’re still infants?

Well 80% of your height is determine by your DNA, the other 20% is environment like how well you eat. The exact mechanism of all the genes that determine your height isn’t well known, but basically they tell your body to stop growing at a certain point, and why stop at a specific point instead of another, well that come from the mix of the DNA of your two parents. The people that reproduce will spread their genes, so the height of human is determine by who survive to pass their genes and who doesn’t.
Your DNA mostly determines your height. The pituitary gland also releases growth hormone and if this is malfunctioning you can be shorter or taller than you normally would be.
