I never really understand why Fossil Fuels are so bad like coal and gasoline and why people prefer renewable energy

Fossil fuels are also a finite resource, they will run out. Producing these resources also has a massive impact on the environment drilling oil/gas or mining coal usually involves some clear cutting and disruption of the land itself. Upgrading and refining gasoline also has by products that are very toxic that have to be disposed of. Not to mention the CO2 and CH4 being released into the atmosphere and those far reaching issues.

Also, there’s no such thing as clean coal, coal inherently contains nitrogen and sulphur impurities that when burn create NOx and SOx issues in the atmosphere and surrounding areas.

Burning these fuels releases CO2 into the atmosphere. This gas causes the atmosphere to better retain the warmth of the Sun, overheating the Earth. People prefer renewable and/or nuclear energy because they want the planet to remain habitable.
