How comes we can hardly remember some things while others seem to be all fresh even after years?

I was just wondering why I could sing along songs which I haven’t heard in well over 5 years while I’m struggling to remember course contents in university from just weeks ago? Thanks for any input.

Our brain only remember things “useful”. And by “useful” I mean stuff that are reused. A song thar you heard a sang a lot will be remembered, while a lesson you’ve read once won’t. Free pro tips : the best way to remember your lessons is to read it once, wait a week without reading it, and then write down everything you remembered. Then, see what you had forgotten and write it down. Repeat the process one week later, then one month and you should be good for a while.
