Eli5 Why do Lizards have the compulsion to practically run under my feet every time I go for a walk or jog?

Because you live in a place where apparently lots of lizards are running around.

In much of the world, there are no lizards, and you would never encounter a single one.

Maybe they are doing the same thing as squirrels when they see a car coming – try to dash across before it gets there, then get scared and try to dash back, and so on until there’s either a squish or there isn’t.

Well, if it’s the brown anoles, they are an invasive species anyway, so it’s probably ok if you squish them.
